SEArcularMINE at Raw Materials Week 2021, Brussels.

Serena Randazzo, from project partner UNIPA,  presented an introduction to SEArcularMINE at the Critical Raw Materials event at Raw Materials Week in Brussels this week. Explaining the work of the project to innovate a sustainable circular process to recover magnesium, lithium, cobalt, boron, strontium, gallium, germanium from seawater.

Raw Materials Week took place from 15 to 19 November 2021 as hybrid and online events, gathering a wide range of stakeholders discussing policies and initiatives in the field of raw materials. LOOPS is a live webinar series organised by Veltha, an International Research Association, committed to spotlighting innovation in the field of circular economy.

WP6 - update

WP6 - update

A Reverse Electrodialysis stack has been shipped by project partners SUEZ to Palermo and has been safely received by project partners ResourSEAs. The stack has already been assembled and some preliminary tests have been carried out to verify the hydraulic seal. The first phase of the laboratory experimental campaign has started and will continue over the next few months.

2021 Sampling Campaign - Portugal

The SEArcularMINE sampling campaign continues this season across the Mediterranean Basin.    Project Partners iBET, based in Lisbon, returned to the nearby Samouco Saltworks this week to collect samples for analysis. 

In common with many ancient saltworks across Europe, Samouco is also a protected Natural Reserve.  The salt harvesting had been completed the previous week leaving the 'bittern' – the pink residual waste liquid targeted by the SEArcularMINE project - clear to see. 

These samples were collected send to partners UPC in Barcelona for analysis.  SEArcularMINE in developing innovative processes to recover valuable minerals from these ‘waste’ products.
