SEArcularMINE project partners have made great progress with characterising bitterns from 15 saltworks located in 8 countries in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Atlantic Ocean (part of work package 2 in the project).

The team used advanced analytical techniques to profile the concentrations of major ions within each  saltwork’s sample,  in addition to the concentration of trace elements, organic matter and microbiological activity (for selected sites). This research will provide vital insights for the next stages in SEArcularMINE’s development.

Four project partners worked together to complete the study: Ecole Nationale D’Ingenieurs de Gabes (ENIG), Universita degli Studi Di Palermo (UNIPA), Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC)  and Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy (VTT).

Congratulations to all of the partners involved – a great team effort!
