Víctor Vallès Nebot

Location: Barcelona, Cataluya, Spain

Position: PhD Candidate and Researcher at R2EM Group, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

Biography: Víctor Vallès Nebot is a dedicated chemical engineer and researcher. He completed his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and further specialized with a master's degree in analytical chemistry from Universitat Barcelona (UB). Víctor is currently a researcher at the R2EM group within the Chemical Engineering Department at UPC, where he is finalizing his PhD, set to defend his thesis in July 2024. His research focuses on the recovery of valuable elements from aqueous waste streams.

Víctor’s work at the R2EM group is centered on developing sustainable management systems for urban and industrial waste by promoting circular solutions, particularly in environmental remediation of soils and groundwater. Within the SEArcularMINE project, he has played a crucial role in recovering boron and other trace elements from bitterns using sorption processes. His research involved identifying sorbents with high affinity and selectivity for the target elements, using these sorbents in packed-bed columns to retain and subsequently elute the elements with acid flushing. This process enabled the concentration and recovery of the targeted elements through precipitation and crystallization methods.
