Ferdinando Domenico Miciletta

Location: Palermo, Italy

Position: Master's Student in Chemical Engineering of Sustainable Processes at the University of Palermo

Biography: Ferdinando Domenico Miciletta is a passionate chemical engineering student from Palermo, Italy. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Palermo and is currently pursuing master's degree in chemical engineering of sustainable processes at the same institution.

Ferdinando's main research area focuses on crystallization processes for the production of magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂). During his involvement with the SEArcularMINE project, he worked extensively with the Mg-CGCR pilot plant. His contributions included experimental testing and optimization of the reactor and product, as well as conducting CFD simulations to integrate fluid dynamics and crystallization phenomena. His efforts led to the production of high-quality magnesium hydroxide and the seamless integration of the reactor within the SEArcularMINE process chain.

The SEArcularMINE project allowed Ferdinando to apply the knowledge acquired during his studies to real-world technological challenges. He particularly valued the collaborative environment and the opportunity to work with a high-level international team. He sees the project as crucial for transforming waste resources into valuable raw materials for European industry, thereby creating significant value for the Sicilian territory.

Looking ahead, Ferdinando aims to pursue a PhD to further his research in reactive crystallization processes, building on the promising results of his master's thesis and contributing to advancements in sustainable chemical engineering.
